University Hospital Limerick experienced data security incident. It investigated staff over the alleged leaking of confidential patient information as well as derogatory Facebook posts. Serious distress was created to a bereaved family and equally distress to the consultant and their team providing care. The hospital group was unable to ensure compliance with data protection regulation and reported as a data breach. There were 51 patients waiting for admission to UHL due to the incident.
