The Islip Town Board is a legislative body empowered by the New York State Constitution to enact legislation, approve the Town budget, levy taxes and provide local services. The Supervisor, Town Clerk, Receiver of Taxes and four Councilpersons are each elected to four-year terms, however, the Councilpersons’ terms are staggered two at a time. The Supervisor and four Councilpersons comprise the voting body of the Town Board, which has jurisdiction over governmental affairs within Town boundaries, exclusive of incorporated villages.
