Kish Nonprofit-Nongovernmental Higher Education Institute was established on Kish Island in 1995 with an official permit from the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology (MSRT); later in 2004 Sharif University of Technology (SUT) was entrusted with its management. The policy of increasing the number of international programs aiming to attract international students led to the launch of joint programs with Monash University of Australia as well as Multimedia University (MMU) in Malaysia.
