Scarsdale Schools Report Data Breach Amid Leadership Transitions and New Hires The Scarsdale Union Free School District recently disclosed a cybersecurity incident during its June 8, 2026, Board of Education (BOE) meeting, alongside updates on student assessments, leadership changes, and new staff appointments. An external threat actor accessed the district’s network this spring, compromising files from a local backup of its lunch processing system. The exposed data included student names, dates of birth, ID numbers, addresses, parent/guardian contact details, and free-lunch eligibility status though no financial information, credit card data, or Social Security numbers were affected. Approximately 4,000 affected families were notified via ParentSquare, while 1,000 former students over 18 received mailed notices. The district reported the breach to the New York State Education Department, the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, and the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center. Data Protection Officer Jeannie Crowley noted a rise in cyberattacks targeting schools nationwide, citing federal data showing an average of five incidents or attempted breaches per week. The district is enhancing monitoring and reviewing data retention policies to mitigate future risks. In other updates, the BOE outlined leadership transitions for the 2026-27 school year, with President Suzie Hahn and Vice President Colleen Brown set to continue their roles. Formal nominations will occur at the July 15 organizational meeting. The board also honored departing members Amber Yusuf and Bob Klein, as well as graduating student representative Anish Mehta, for their contributions. The district welcomed several new educators, including Jordan Simons as Assistant Principal at Heathcote Elementary and Deirdre da Fonte as a classroom teacher at Fox Meadow. Other hires span special education, music, and physical education roles, reflecting the district’s focus on experienced, student-centered staff. Additionally, the BOE announced the rollout of Spring 2026 Renaissance Star assessment reports, which will provide families with growth metrics in literacy and math. Starting in 2026-27, reports will be issued three times annually to track student progress.
