Indonesian News Portal Tempo Hit by Massive DDoS Attack Indonesia’s Tempo news portal has been targeted by a large-scale distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack since June 5, 2026, disrupting public access to its website. The assault overwhelmed Tempo’s servers with 24.9 million malicious requests by June 8, according to Heru Tjatur Tjahja, the company’s Chief Technology Officer. The attack, executed using bot-generated traffic, occurred in high-intensity waves, particularly between 8:30 p.m. and midnight, with one surge recording 12.97 million requests in just two hours. Preliminary analysis revealed the attack originated from multiple countries, including Colombia, the U.S., the Philippines, Bangladesh, and Mexico. Tempo suspects the DDoS attack may be retaliation for a prior breach in late May, when hackers targeted its content management system (CMS) and unpublished articles related to corruption cases. While the CMS design prevented permanent deletions, the incident appears linked to the current disruption. In response, Tempo has bolstered its security measures, including credential updates and system reinforcements, to mitigate further attacks. The company emphasized that such cyber threats aim to disrupt its journalistic operations.
