The Metropolitan Opera suffered a cyberattack that shut down its website and box office. The cyberattack impacted its network systems, including the website, box office, and call center. While the attack did not affect any performances and they continued as scheduled, the organization was unable to process new ticket orders or provide exchanges and refunds.  The organization immediately launched the investigation and took steps to restore the systems.

On May 22, 2023, the Maine Office of the Attorney General reported that The Metropolitan Opera experienced an external data breach involving unauthorized access to its systems, which occurred between September 30, 2022 and December 6, 2022. The breach affected a total of 49,486 individuals, including 275 Maine residents, with compromised information including names, Social Security numbers, and financial account details. Identity theft protection services were offered for 12 months through Kroll.
