The attack caused a network outage, forcing HMSI to temporarily adjust its manufacturing schedule across its four Indian plants. While Honda Cars India remained unaffected, HMSI’s operations—already in a phased ramp-up post-lockdown—faced delays as the virus-infected servers disrupted global coordination. The incident impacted over 11 Honda plants worldwide, with five in the USA alone, indicating a large-scale operational halt. Although retail sales and dealership invoicing remained intact, the production slowdown threatened supply chain continuity, given HMSI’s reliance on 308 suppliers. The attack’s origin was under investigation, but the global network compromise suggested a sophisticated cyber intrusion capable of crippling manufacturing workflows.
