Cape students were affected by a data breach incident after an employee's laptop got stolen in December 2017. The compromised information includes Social Security numbers and other information from approximately 2,618 Massachusetts students from 13 school districts including the Bourne, Truro, and Nauset districts, according to the office of Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey. The exposed information also includes name social security numbers and either date of birth or Medicaid numbers or both. The company provided credit monitoring and froze accounts for customers at the time of the theft and will continue to do so as necessary, Meroff wrote in an email.
