Phoenix-based Banner Health, one of the largest healthcare systems in the U.S., suffered from a cyber attack after that an unauthorized party gained access of 3.7 million individuals. The attackers targeted payment card data, including cardholder name, card number, expiration date and internal verification code, as the data was being routed through affected payment processing systems. “Banner investigated the incident and committed to maintaining the privacy and security of information of patients, employees, plan members and beneficiaries, customers at our food and beverage outlets, as well as our providers.

The California Attorney General reported that Banner Health experienced a cyber attack on July 13, 2016, which may have exposed personal information of individuals, including names, birthdates, addresses, and social security numbers. The breach was initiated on June 17, 2016, and the number of affected individuals is currently unknown.
