Albemarle County experienced a ransomware attack that resulted in the potential exposure of personal information of local government and public school employees, including driver’s license numbers, Social Security numbers, passport numbers, and military IDs. Additionally, some of the 112,000 residents may have had their names, addresses, and Social Security numbers exposed. The attack caused phone and technology outages, affecting non-emergency phone lines and county facilities. The county is offering free identity protection services to all residents, local government employees, and public school workers.
