Making History... ​ Launched in 2006 by Quentin “Q” Talley, On Q Performing Arts proudly carries a mission to produce classic, contemporary and original performance works that reflect the black experience, especially that of the African American. Talley’s bold vision is reflected in today’s organizational vision: To present the best variety of professional black arts experience year round in a major regional theatre setting.​ ​ History lives through stories. One of the most dangerous things that can occur for a people is failure to tell their stories. It is at the peril of being falsely depicted and virtually erased from history that we fail to tell and re-tell, celebrate and preserve stories from the African American experience. Incomparable to any other, the African American story is too vivid, too varied, too vibrant and too vital to American history ever to be forgotten. ​ Extraordinary stories. Our theatre company was expressly created to lift up black voices and vantage points, authentically and artistically, through theatre. A rare breed, On Q is one of only a hand full of Black theatre companies operating in the United States and the country’s only professional theatre company between Washington, DC and Atlanta, GA that produces a full season of Black theatre.
