The Old Vic under Artistic Director Matthew Warchus is a place that encourages a new love of theatre, as well as offering a refreshing experience to those who keep coming back for more. It is a theatre steeped in tradition yet still innovating and making history today through a huge variety of output on and off stage which grabs the imagination of the broadest range of people. The Old Vic programme encompasses invigorating new writing; works that engage with a wide social conversation; nurturing new musicals, mounting passionate revivals and famous old plays; experimentation with quirky, eye-opening and challenging pieces; and family shows and pantomimes. In addition, we work with over 10,000 people each year of all ages and backgrounds to unlock creative intelligence through school projects, employability schemes and community engagement. All of this is achieved whilst operating as a not-for-profit organisation without a regular subsidy, in an almost 200 year old building with a touch of magic about it.

Steep Theatre Company

Last Update: 2025-12-11

Steep Theatre Company was founded in 2000 by three actors with little more than a shoestring budget and a desire to work in an open, ensemble atmosphere. Over the years, the company has become a dedicated, close-knit group of thirty-one actors, directors, designers, and writers driven by a shared commitment to the organization’s mission: To bring out the everyday truths in the stories we tell through ensemble work and to reach out to non-traditional theatregoers by seeking out stories and creating experiences relevant to them. Steep believes theatre should stoke conversations about the issues and conditions that are a part of all of our lives; conversations that take place between artists and audiences in the theatre, in the lobby, or long after everyone has gone home. But Steep’s goal is more than just sparking these conversations. The organization’s goal is to add more voices and perspectives to these conversations. Steep strives to reach the everyday person who may have abandoned theatre as a relevant art form by telling stories that touch their lives in real and palpable ways and by creating an environment that is welcoming to everyone. By bringing these voices back to the theatre, Steep hopes to reinvigorate conversations and ensure that theatre is a viable, vital, and productive art form.
