The House was founded in 2001 by a group of friends to explore connections between Community and Storytelling through a unique theatrical experience. Mission Statement The mission of the Lee's Summit Symphony is to enhance the local cultural experience by providing high-quality, accessible live performances that inspire, educate and entertain. The Lee’s Summit Symphony Orchestra was founded in 2003 in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. It is one of the largest and most well-established nonprofit arts organizations in the community, and is proudly celebrating its twelfth season during the 2014-15 season. Each season, musicians give hundreds of hours of their time and thousands of patrons enjoy the Symphony at five live concerts and educational programming for youth. The Symphony provides affordable and accessible high-quality music, supports arts education, and helps attract civic-minded workers and residents to the community. The Symphony supports arts education through partnerships with MCC-Longview (one of the Metropolitan Community Colleges) and the Lee’s Summit school district. Students from MCC-Longview can participate in the orchestra for college credit, and educational efforts of the school district are supported through unique educational and performance opportunities for youth in the community. The annual Young Artist competition gives high school students the opportunity to perform a major work with the Symphony’s accompaniment. Arts education extends to all ages through conductor’s notes provided in each program, and information about the piece of music being performed is provided through a visual projection during the concert. The Symphony also supports other community organizations as small groups of musicians provide entertainment in support of community-based and nonprofit events throughout the year.
