Programs are created to service inner-city youth 5-18 years of age within the five boroughs of New York City. This year-round enrichment aims to address pervasive issues common to today's youth, including bullying, self-esteem, cultural awareness/appreciation, and the impact of divorce, and all workshops close with a student-led, scripted performance highlighting specified themes. Direct instructional services are provided to students, with professional development training series offered to professionals and parents through contracts with the Department of Education, Department of Health, and the Administration for Children Services, in addition to specific after-school programs, community-based organizations, and school officials. TALKING DRUM teaching artists develop client-specific planning guides with program coordinators, teachers, counselors, and additional staff, allowing for a customized program that is age, grade, and development appropriate. Services provided are tailored to specific program goals and budgets and are led by leaders in the field of creative arts therapy, special education, and psychology. The program’s mission is twofold: **To provide an educational and enriching platform for young individuals to express themselves through creative arts, which includes dance, drama, art, music, & spoken word. **To provide children with the tools of empowerment so they may achieve their full potential.

The Yard Theatre

Unit 2a Queens Yard, London, London, E9 5EN, GB
Last Update: 2025-12-14

The Yard Theatre is an award-winning theatre in a converted warehouse in Hackney Wick. We produce explosive new shows, by bringing together classical theatre, contemporary performance and London’s nightlife. We create extraordinary live stories, and support artists to develop work, take risks and express themselves. We’re at the centre of our community, reaching thousands of local people every year through programmes in local schools and throughout Hackney Wick. We run creative projects for young people aged 7-21 years to make work for our stage and offer regular activities and resources for local people. The Yard is also one of London’s most exciting venues for experiencing music, welcoming parties in and for under-represented groups in London’s music scene, and hosting internationally renowned DJs and promoters every weekend. The Yard was founded by Artistic Director Jay Miller in 2011, with support from Tarek Iskander, Sasha Milavic Davies and Alex Rennie and 50 volunteers. They worked with the architectural firm Practice Architecture to convert a disused warehouse into a theatre and bar. Since 2011 our work has been seen by hundreds of thousands of people. Shows we have made have transferred to the National Theatre, been turned into television series and toured the UK.
