Last Update: 2025-12-11

Shake on the Lake is a non-profit, professional theatre company that specializes in fast, fun, and physical performances that are presented in the "Spirit of Shakespeare". This means we perform outdoors, with a low-impact performance, on tour with shows that include improv and audience interaction. We have two major performance seasons - our summer tour and a winter season. The summer tour now travels throughout Western New York and has done work in Wyoming, Livingston, Genesee, Orleans, Erie, Monroe, Cattaraugus, Niagara, and Allegany counties. Through our K-12 Groundlings Programming, our teaching artists teach improv, puppetry, and theatre in schools throughout the area. We are also a Voices UnCaged site that brings theatre arts to students in correctional facilities. The company was founded by Josh Rice and Pilar McKay in 2011. Shake on the Lake is based on Silver Lake, New York, where their main stage is located at the Perry Public Beach. For more information, please visit our website.
