It didn’t look good for the Minnesota media in the spring of 2007. Both Twin Cities daily newspapers were reeling from dramatic revenue drops as the Internet decimated their classified and display advertising, and emerging free online content led consumers to think that maybe they didn’t have to pay for the news. Into this journalistic and economic cauldron came an unlikely new player: MinnPost, a nonprofit, online news organization. We are, and have always been, a nonpartisan enterprise that provides high-quality journalism for people who care about Minnesota. Our award-winning journalists not only provide you with the news but look to analyze that news-- so that you know what it all means. We believe high-quality journalism is a community asset that sustains democracy and quality of life. As Minnesotans, we are working to ensure that this state is informed and civically-minded. We care about what happens to our state just as our readers care. Stay up on the latest from MinnPost's nonprofit newsroom. Subscribe to our daily newsletter.: https://www.minnpost.com/subscribe/

Description

ThingsBoard in versions prior to v4.2.1 allows an authenticated user to upload malicious SVG images via the "Image Gallery", leading to a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability. The exploit can be triggered when any user accesses the public API endpoint of the malicious SVG images, or if the malicious images are embedded in an `iframe` element, during a widget creation, deployed to any page of the platform (e.g., dashboards), and accessed during normal operations. The vulnerability resides in the `ImageController`, which fails to restrict the execution of JavaScript code when an image is loaded by the user's browser. This vulnerability can lead to the execution of malicious code in the context of other users' sessions, potentially compromising their accounts and allowing unauthorized actions.
