Founded in 2006 by choreographer Andrea Miller, Gallim Dance is a New York City based company. The mission of Gallim Dance is to create, to play inside the imagination, to find juxtapositions of the mind and body that resonate in the soul, to investigate our limitations and pleasures, and to realize the endless human capacity for inspiration. Miller’s works are simultaneously kinetic and intimate expressions of the self and its inner mosaic of weakness, desires, and struggles. Her work weaves together technical virtuosity, physical exhaustion, and the anatomy of fantasy and reality. Her use of extreme physicality – movement that shifts between explosive power and contained tension – creates an experience where the dancers appear to exist at the edge of their limits. Gallim Dance burst onto the New York dance scene in its debut performance in 2007 at Joyce SoHo Presents, and caught the attention of the New York City dance community, bringing momentum to the burgeoning group of artists. The company has gone on to perform in many premiere dance venues including Jacob’s Pillow, Joyce SoHo, Movement Research at Judson Church, Dance Theater Workshop, Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater, The Juilliard Theater, Battery Park, WHITE WAVE, and The Flea Theater. Gallim has also been invited to conduct residencies at The College at Brockport in Brockport, NY, Peridance Capezio Center in New York City, SUNY Potsdam, and Skidmore College. Gallim Dance will make its debut at The Joyce Theater and will bring I Can See Myself in Your Pupil and Blush on tour throughout Europe in 2010.
