Mission Statement The mission of the Lee's Summit Symphony is to enhance the local cultural experience by providing high-quality, accessible live performances that inspire, educate and entertain. The Lee’s Summit Symphony Orchestra was founded in 2003 in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. It is one of the largest and most well-established nonprofit arts organizations in the community, and is proudly celebrating its twelfth season during the 2014-15 season. Each season, musicians give hundreds of hours of their time and thousands of patrons enjoy the Symphony at five live concerts and educational programming for youth. The Symphony provides affordable and accessible high-quality music, supports arts education, and helps attract civic-minded workers and residents to the community. The Symphony supports arts education through partnerships with MCC-Longview (one of the Metropolitan Community Colleges) and the Lee’s Summit school district. Students from MCC-Longview can participate in the orchestra for college credit, and educational efforts of the school district are supported through unique educational and performance opportunities for youth in the community. The annual Young Artist competition gives high school students the opportunity to perform a major work with the Symphony’s accompaniment. Arts education extends to all ages through conductor’s notes provided in each program, and information about the piece of music being performed is provided through a visual projection during the concert. The Symphony also supports other community organizations as small groups of musicians provide entertainment in support of community-based and nonprofit events throughout the year.

Silk Road Cultural Center

150 N Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL Illinois, 60601-7594, US
Last Update: 2025-12-09

From Silk Road Theatre Project (2002) to Silk Road Rising (2012) to Silk Road Cultural Center (2024), our Silk Road story continues to inspire. OUR MISSION Silk Road Cultural Center is an interdisciplinary arts organization rooted in Pan-Asian*, North African, and Muslim experiences. We embrace the arts as a catalyst for connecting people, places, histories, and futures. *We define Pan-Asian as inclusive of all cultures that span the Asian continent, including their diaspora communities. OUR VISION At Silk Road Cultural Center we know that representation matters; it shapes perceptions, informs conversations, and influences policies. In our increasingly diverse American society, we view representation as key to having a seat at the table. Understanding that cultures are inherently linked and not ranked, our artwork explores the intersections of cultures without undermining the specificities of cultures. In striving for a society that values art over ideology and inquiry over dogma, we welcome the complexities and contradictions of our human experiences. Through theatre, film, and digital media, music and dance, visual, literary, and culinary arts, we embrace storytelling in many forms. At Silk Road Cultural Center, art is both a crossroads and a destination; a sanctuary for healing ourselves, healing our communities, and healing our world.
