Ensambles Ballet Folklórico de San Francisco was founded in 1992 by a group of individuals committed to preserving the tradition of Mexican folk dance. Since its inception, the company has been dedicated to researching, preserving, and disseminating Mexico’s rich regional folkloric music and dance heritage through performances, workshops, and lectures in the community. The company’s mission to promote Mexican dance with quality and authenticity. This is what allows for such diversity to blossom within the company. Ensambles has created an everlasting cycle to the preservation of Folkloric dance through the perpetual learning and teaching of dance to all whom desire. There is no requirement of prior dance experience to be a part of Ensambles, only a will to promote and display the beauty that is Mexican folk dance. With several teachers within its company, everyone has a chance to learn from one another. The company consists of dancers whom have been directors of groups themselves, or have been principal dancers within other folkloric groups; nevertheless, all have come together to learn and teach folkloric dance within Ensambles. The heart of the company is in its people and their dedication to this mission.

The Plaza Theatre

120 S. Houston Street, Wharton, 77488, US
Last Update: 2025-12-13

The Community Theatre of Wharton, a 501(C)3 non-profit organization now renamed the Plaza Theatre, Inc., acquired the abandoned and derelict Plaza Theatre building in the early ’90s. By 1995 the first floor was restored as a venue for live performances. We now produce a regular season of plays and concerts each year as well as special events. Our goal is to give ordinary citizens the chance to participate in the arts at all levels and to facilitate their personal growth and the growth, health and wellbeing of the community. The Plaza is located on Monterey Square, the original downtown square in Wharton, Texas. Although we are based in Wharton County, the Plaza’s central location and excellent accessibility help us attract audience and performers from throughout the region, including the nearby counties of Victoria, Fort Bend, Matagorda, Colorado, Brazoria, and Jackson.
