The Mission & Vision of the Bennett TheatreLab “The Bennett TheatreLab strives to provide professional acting conservatory training that offers an alternative to the expensive academic approach of a University. We work to provide a training ground that will give the talented amateur the tools, skills, and confidence to successfully approach a professional career in theatre and film. A local conservatory with emphasis on community development will attract young talents that will in time raise the level of artistic accomplishment as our community theatre and city grows.” The Goal of the TheatreLab “The TheatreLab is a place for mutual growth of body mind and soul. Our goal is to contribute to the cultural life of our community. We provide the most affordable and innovative advanced actor-training techniques in a safe and nurturing environment.” My Teaching Philosophy “Every actor with talent has a spark of genius. The goal of our System of training is to identify that spark, bring it to the fore, and develop the actor’s technical skill and confidence to do so independently.” Philip G. Bennett Artistic Director --- The Lab was founded in San Francisco, California in 1976 as The San Francisco Academy Theatre, a four year professional actor training program. In 1984 the Academy opened its exploratory wing, The Bennett TheatreLab. The Lab is committed to research and development of the most advanced techniques for actor training based on the Stanislavsky System of Acting, combined with the Voice, Speech and classical acting techniques of the Royal Shakespeare Company, London. In 2009 the TheatreLab opened its doors in Tucson, Arizona. --- The TheatreLab is dedicated to the training of both novice and professional actors for a career in theatre and film based on the Stanislavsky System's Psychophysical Actions. Actors are trained in a safe and creative environment where the system can be absorbed, experienced, and practiced in any acting arena. Stanislavsky Teaching Artist and Artistic Director, Philip G. Bennett, will introduce you to Stanislavsky’s inspired technique about the actor's creative process and how Psychophysical training improves your acting skills. You will be introduced to the tools of the System while working on yourself as an actor and working on a character from a play. The Bennett TheatreLab offers an in-depth training, and begins with a Two Year basic curriculum in Active Analysis through Physical Actions Acting Technique. Classes include: Psychophysical Conditioning Exercises, Voice and Speech, Improvisation, Audition Coaching, Contemporary and Classical Scene study and Public Performances. Advanced Rehearsal/Performance Class introduces advanced techniques: Character Transformation, Theme, Dual Perspectives, neuro-linguistic based voice and speech work. Advanced movement exercises and participation in one-act and full-length plays produced for public performances and presented in repertory.
