As a major champion of the arts in regional North Queensland, Dancenorth balances a dynamic regional presence with a commitment to creating compelling contemporary dance that tours the globe. Dancenorth is one of Australia’s leading contemporary dance companies having presented work in over 35 International Arts Festivals and venues around Australia and the world and is an integral part of the Australian dance ecology making a significant contribution to the dance sector and building literacy around contemporary dance nationally. Dancenorth empowers and supports artists by providing a creative hub for many artistic voices including a diverse range of choreographers, guest collaborators, artists in residence and dancers. Alongside the professional ensemble and touring productions sits an equally vital pillar of focus, the Community Experience Projects. Driven by a dedicated team, Dancenorth works with diverse and minority communities across Queensland using dance to support, enhance, inspire and heal - bringing communities together. Our approach is built on the ethics of collaboration and collision, authenticity, collegiality, discipline, care and love. Centred on an inclusive ethos of shared ownership, collective conscience, support, interconnection and empowerment, Dancenorth’s artistic philosophy provides a fertile framework which galvanises the company’s creative and administrative endeavours. Deeply connected to place, to the vastness of the sky, the richness of the land and the saline breath of the ocean, we embrace our regional home base in Townsville as a source of inspiration and creative energy. We respond to isolation as enabling, enriching and facilitating a way of making that is responsive to these people in this place at this time. Our aim is to nurture technical virtuosity, intellectual rigour and emotional presence in equal measure.

The Landing Dance Centre

None
Last Update: 2025-12-11

The Landing Dance Centre was established in August 2008 by professional dance artist, Brenna McLaud. Our mandate is to provide a safe, creative and non-judgmental environment for young, aspiring dancers and community artists in which to train, perform and choreograph. The Landing’s dance facility and customer base have both grown rapidly since 2008, and in that time, we have developed a strong reputation throughout the Lower Mainland dance community. Our programs include classes in a variety of dance styles from ballet, modern, tap, jazz, private technique and Pilates. While we believe a strong ballet foundation is important for a dancer’s development, it is the unique contemporary background of our Director and our desire to expand the artistic boundaries of dance that truly sets us apart. A host of professionally instructed master classes, workshops and dance intensives are also offered throughout the year to provide our dancers with the specialized training that will prepare them for the transition to the world of professional dance. As a central resource for the Vancouver dance community, The Landing provides young dancers with the unique opportunity to train alongside working dance professionals and choreographers, collaborating on diverse and innovative dance projects in a supportive and creative environment.
