Developing youth and our community through excellence in comprehensive theatre education and performance. CTC was created by the merger of two theatre companies founded in 1976: Walden Theatre and Blue Apple Players. The 2015 merger created a comprehensive organization that serves more than 50,000 young people per year across 63 zip codes in Kentucky and So. Indiana. The company's Blue Apple Outreach provides programming in 300+ schools and community centers, including 83% of the region's Title-I schools. The extracurricular Walden Theatre Conservatory offers classes for young people ages 5-18 year-round from introductory to pre-professional levels, and is considered among the top 5 theatre training programs in the nation. The company's $1 million annual budget places it among the largest arts organizations in the region, and a growing staff is enabling Commonwealth Theatre Center to continue adding capacity for meaningful, innovative, and deep arts experiences with proven social, academic, and career outcomes.
