City Theatre Company
City Theatre is Pittsburgh home for new plays. Described by the New York Times as "Pittsburgh's most innovative theater." City Theatre is Pittsburgh second largest theatre company, and is the only theatre to focus it's work on new work, producing on average nine shows a year. The theatre consists of two stages, a 254 seat mainstage and an intimate 100 seat black box theatre. To achieve its mission, City Theatre operates a suite of fully accessible and professional programs designed to create and produce contemporary and new works of theatre, nurture artistry, and engage audiences in serious discussion of the art of theatre, themes explored in its work, and their relation to the world in real time. City Theatre takes seriously its responsibility to its local community and the world at large and is about more than just producing art; it is about curating an experience the region needs. From play selection to artist support and educational programs to community engagement, City Theatre strives to be a national model for what a theatre company can be—artistically accomplished, fiscally sound, and community-minded.
