Carthage Area Hospital
Carthage Area Hospital (CAH) has been a cornerstone of community healthcare since its inception as a not-for-profit rural hospital in 1965. Today, CAH operates as a fully accredited 25-bed Critical Access Hospital, proudly serving approximately 83,000 residents across Jefferson, northern Lewis, and southern St. Lawrence counties. With a network of regional healthcare centers located in Carthage, Ogdensburg, Heuvelton, Waddington, Hammond, Canton, and Madrid— to include our Rural Health Clinics, as Walk-in Clinic and School-Based Clinics—we ensure that quality healthcare is never far from home. A member of the North Star Health Alliance, the hospital is also honored to provide care for military personnel and their families stationed at Fort Drum, supporting their health needs close to where they live and work. We take pride in helping military families feel welcomed and integrated into our community, while providing the trusted care they deserve. At Carthage, our commitment to healthcare excellence and equitable, value-based personal care remains steadfast. We are dedicated to delivering comfort and healing to every individual, ensuring that all residents have convenient access to essential services without the burden of unnecessary travel. We are truly committed to keeping healthcare local.
