Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) is the nation’s oldest and largest youth theatre company. What started in 1963 as the dream of a group of passionate artists, to provide children with access to quality theatre, has become the reality of a dynamic and respected theatre company supported by generations of children, families and the performing arts industry in Sydney and across the country. That support is the reason ATYP exists today. Thanks to the generosity of our community, ATYP has grown to be a flagship national company offering a place where young people feel welcome, safe and empowered. Working with leading artists ATYP uses drama to address issues affecting the health and wellbeing of all young Australians. The impact of that interaction changes lives - from growth in self-confidence to the launch of a professional career. ATYP works with all levels of the arts industry. It is the meeting point between young Australians of all backgrounds and our most celebrated professional artists, many of whom are alumni returning to support the theatre company by sharing their knowledge with the next generation of storytellers.
